Commercial Consultant
We are hiring a Commercial Consultant for a fast-growing startup in the sports industry. The ideal candidate will lead and execute revenue-generating strategies across sponsorships, partnerships, naming rights, and corporate engagements.
This role requires a proven track record in sports business, corporate sponsorships, and commercial deal-making, preferably in football or related industries. The selected candidate will play a key part in monetizing brand assets, securing high-value corporate deals, and driving financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sponsorship & Partnership Development
- Identify, negotiate, and secure strategic sponsorship deals across various subsidiaries.
- Develop a robust naming rights strategy for key facilities and pitch to top banks, fintech companies, and global brands.
- Create tailored sponsorship packages for corporate brands, aligning their objectives with projects (e.g., shirt sponsorship, academy branding, infrastructure partnerships).
- Foster relationships with local and international sponsors, leveraging the influence of advisory board members and key stakeholders.
2. Revenue & Commercial Strategy
- Develop a 5-year commercial roadmap to drive revenue generation.
- Structure revenue streams, including licensing, merchandising, and media partnerships.
- Explore alternative funding models, including grants, impact investment, and government partnerships.
- Provide insights on leveraging sustainability and Circular Economy narratives to attract global funding.
3. Branding & Market Positioning
- Collaborate with the marketing & media team to create compelling sales decks and sponsorship proposals.
- Oversee the development of high-impact marketing materials to attract corporate partners.
- Ensure alignment between brand narrative and commercial appeal, making the organization an attractive investment for sponsors.
4. Financial & Performance Metrics
- Set KPIs for commercial success, tracking revenue growth and deal closure rates.
- Work closely with finance teams to structure commercial contracts that align with financial projections.
- Provide regular reports on commercial milestones, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in commercial roles within sports business, football, fintech, or corporate partnerships.
- Strong network in Nigerian and international corporate sectors, particularly in banking, fintech, FMCG, and telecoms.
- Proven experience in securing high-value sponsorships and naming rights deals.
- Deep understanding of sports marketing, branding, and revenue generation models.
- Expertise in structuring and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment with deferred payment structures.
